Guitar For Girls - Books and DVD's by Bill McRea
Are there special guitars for girls in shops? I don't think so. However, if you really want guitars for girls, here's one for you: "Guitar for Girls: Start Playing with Alex Bach (Book & DVD)"
As you can see, this is a special guitar tutorial package that is designed mainly for the girls. Before we get into a review of this book, you'll note that most guitar related instructions are mostly by men and seem to talk to men. Playing guitars seem to be a male - dominated activity.
So, the girls don't usually connect at a certain level. You know, a guy can only talk like a guy and sometimes it helps if the teacher is a girl (that is if you look at it from the girls' point of view). I know I am getting ahead of myself here. So let's get into the review proper...
This book and DVD set has been carefully prepared to show you all you need to play the guitar (whether acoustic or electric). Yes, the lessons are not gender specific although the do give some tips that are just for the girls. After all, there's nothing about guitar playing that requires... (I don't want to get inappropriate here). It's just a girl teaching and giving inspiration to ladies who need some inspiration in the form of a female model.
The author is a talented singer, songwriter and recording artist and does cover chords, scales, strumming patterns and more. She goes further to show how to piece everything together to develop your own style.
The DVD gives you the opportunity to practice with professionals in the form of backup tracks.
If you have a girl who needs to get into the world of guitars, this is surely a great set. That is not to say that it will do harm to a boy either. It includes tips on picking the best guitar and guitar care.
The only complaint I have seen so far about this pack is that some of the lessons move too fast. But, hey, it's a DVD. You can pause or go back to a particular frame.
This set comes at a good price, too. So for those looking for guitars for girls, here's something close: A book and DVD that will at least inspire any aspiring female guitarist.
